First -Contact Wormteq to arrange a mutually convenient day for collection of your samples
We can often examine them at short notice but if you can pre-arrange collection, that's useful.
Let us know your name and contact details for your report
On the day:
Collect a golf ball sized quantity of poo (as fresh as possible for optimum results and preferably bits from 2 or 3 different balls)
Put it in a small plastic bag and squeeze out the air
Label with horse's name
Keep in a cool place until collected
Results will usually be sent on the same day (text and then email)
Strongyle (Redworm) egg
This is the main type of egg seen in your worm count.
Redworms are the most common type of roundworm in horses.
Strongyle and Parascaris eggs
Parascaris is the other type of roundworm.
Not often seen in adult horses - it's more common in foals.
Pinworm egg
Pinworm eggs are rarely seen in a normal faecal egg count.
If you see tiny white worms around your horse's bottom, or they are very itchy, this may be the problem.
The best way to detect it is by a sellotape test. The eggs are deposited on the skin around the anus. They are picked up by dabbing sellotape on the area and can then be seen under the microscope.
