Horse faecal worm egg count
This test is used to detect eggs from large or small adult redworms (Strongyle)
It will also detect roundworm eggs (Ascarid) - if they are present. These are most often found in foals.
Your egg count result will primarily be the number of redworm eggs seen.
If roundworm or tapeworm eggs are seen, they will be listed separately.
All samples are collected from your yard, home or other convenient place.
Prices:
£5.00 each for 1-19 samples
£4.50 each for 20-39 samples
£4.00 each for 40 or more samples
Prices will be 50p more per sample for distances over 25 miles.
If you would rather post a sample, contact us for instructions.
What it doesn't detect
Tapeworm do not produce eggs reliably. So tapeworms may be present even if eggs are not seen.
Encysted redworm are at a stage in their life cycle where they don't produce eggs.
Therefore you need to use a wormer suitable for tapeworm and encysted redworm at least once a year.
Pinworm eggs are not found in faecal sample. The adults come out at night and lay eggs around the anus. A sellotape slide is used to detect pinworm eggs. Ask for instructions.
If you suspect pinworm and want a sellotape preparation tested: £4 when tested alone / £3 when done with a faecal egg count.
Pinworm samples can be posted so distance is no problem. Contact us for instructions and arrangements.
